| Things to Remember for a Race! |
|
- Bike - yes, remember to pack both wheels
in the car if you have to disassemble it!
- Helmet
- Glasses - if you have the luxury, bring
a choice of clear/dark/yellow lenses
- Riding Gloves
- Riding shoes - don't worry if you don't
have clip ins, but do bring a separate pair of shoes for riding
and then another pair for afterwards. If you do have clip ins
it is very important that you bring them!
- Sunscreen
- Chamoix cream - eg. vasaline to prevent
chafing around the areas that rub on the seat!
- Hat/Beenie or both
- Rain jacket.
- Riding clothes - have a jacket that
you don't mind riding in to wear while you're warming up. Have
layers so that you can do a last minute change if you need.
Arm and leg warmers are handy for warming up in and then taking
them off just before the start.
- Spare dry clothes for afterwards -
even in summer you can end up soaked and caked in mud at a mountainbike
race! Dry socks are good too!
- Towel - good for drying off/wiping
off dust and using if you need to get changed without exposing
yourselves!
- Wet facewasher - if you want to help
with the clean off/cool down afterwards.
- Multiple drink bottles - eg. one for
before, one for each race lap and one for afterwards. If you
don't have that many bottles, bring an old juice/cordial bottle
to use as a refill. On a warm day it's handy to have them in
a cool bag/esky especially one that is easy to carry around.
- Food - there isn't always food available
to purchase at an event! Bring something to snack on in the
hour before your race eg. muesli bar, honey sandwich, banana.
Something to have during your race if it's going over an hour
- sports drink, carbo shot, banana, honey or jam sandwich, bar.
Something to have afterwards - peanut butter sandwich, muesli
bars, fruit, hot milo, rice cream, water melon...
- Race licence
- Money - for race entry when required/snacks
and drinks (not always available)
- Bike computer if you have one
- Something to let you know the time
- nothing worse that stressing about how long it is to go before
the race briefing or start!
- Multitool, bike tube, tyre leavers,
chain link (to fix broken chains quickly) if your multitool
has a chain braker on it, pump, O2 canister if you use them
( make sure you know how to use that particular one if you are
going to rely on it!), spare derailier hanger. That's to carry
on you during the race.
- Other tools and bits if you have them:
electrical tape, zip ties, floor pump, puncture repair kit,
another tube, a tyre, shock pump, shifter, screw driver ( especially
handy if you need to lever your brake pads apart if you have
hydrualic discs.), chain lube.
- Medication - eg. asthma puffer even
if you hardly ever use it.
- Simple first aid (organisers also provide
some)
- Camera
- Race directions - know where you need
to go!
- Mobile phone if you have one.
- Race number plate - for all LMBC events.
- A chair
- Mat/blacket to stretch on
- Know the race rules regarding feed
stations, rego times and what to do in the event of a mechanical.
